Hello Theatre and Film friends, and colleagues! Last month, I turned in Eclectic Theater‘s “Notice to Vacate” our current venue. Our lease is coming to an end October 31 and after eleven years, we will not be renewing our lease. This was not an easy decision to make. Eclectic Theater as well as the legacy Odd Duck Studio, have become a well used venue since it opened in 1997 during the first Seattle Fringe Festival.

Eclectic Theater began managing the venue in 2006 and in the following years have produced and co produced so many local plays, Improv, sketch comedy and variety, and stand-up comedy. And we have hosted so many rental shows including the current incarnation of the Seattle Fringe Festival

Some of the most memorable moments were when Reggie Watts opened for Blood Squad one year. Lauren Weedman rehearsed a solo show and was interviewed by Nancy Guppy. I had the opportunity to play Hamlet, and the Scottish King, as well as supporting roles in various shows. David Natale originally performed The Westerbork SerenadeHari Kondabolu has performed many New Material Night shows for a few of his comedy albums. Megan Griffiths’ film Lucky Them, rented the venue for production office and background holding. So many short films and music videos, and TV pilots have shot on location. And we have premiered a lot of original works by local (Leonard GoodismanJohn RuoffJorj SavageChris MathewsSteve Treacy and more!) and national playwrights like Rosemary Poole-Carter. We have hosted an uncanny amount of play and screenplay readings. We have hosted so many SAG-AFTRA events and workshops. And we have been the site for many Equity Members’ Projects.

We just closed the World Premiere of The Sunflower Sisters by John Ruoff, on October 1.

We have the final episode of Not Too Late with El Sanchez on October 21 at 10:30pm. And we will have Rock Bottom Can’t Escape Time on October 21 at 8pm.

Now it is time for Eclectic Theater to close this chapter, so that we can embark on our next chapter of raising funds (Please donate at https://co.clickandpledge.com/sp/d1/default.aspx?wid=56490) for an all Equity, all IATSE production of The Shadow Box, in the Fall of 2018.

I want to thank all of you that have played a part as a volunteer, as a theater artist, as a film artist, or as audience in making the last eleven years a historic and memorable time.

If you are interested in renting the venue from November 1, 2017 on, please contact Steve McHugh at mchugh_steve@yahoo.com, and at 206-550-4023.  #eclectictheater #SeattleFringeFest #LuckyThem

Thank you for the eleven years of support and look out for further notices from Eclectic Theater for our upcoming fundraising campaign and production of The Shadow Box in 2018 .

In this compelling dramatic triptych, three terminal cancer patients dwell in separate cottages on a hospital’s grounds. The three are attended and visited by family and close friends: Agnes and her mother Felicity, estranged further by the latter’s dementia; Brian and Beverly, whose marital complications are exacerbated by Brian’s new lover, Mark; and Joe and Maggie, unready for the strain of Joe’s impending death and its effect on their teenage son.

“An important, touching and courageous play […] Triumphantly turns up […] Cristofer writes with the compassion of the undamned. An extraordinarily good Broadway play with meaty roles for actors.” – The New York Times“Thunders with life.” – ABC TV

“By far the finest play of the New York season, beautifully realized drama of sensitive perceptions often as funny as it is moving.” – Washington Post

“Extraordinary. An overwhelming emotional experience. Truly startling and in its uncompromising way, very funny.” – Boston Globe

The Shadow Box opened on March 31, 1977 at the Morosco Theatre in New York.

“Please note that this production is still pending due to funding.”
