Private Cocktails

Private Cocktails is an original comedy by Seattle playwright John Ruoff. While each attempting their own illicit affair, Lord and Lady Dropbottom become entangled with two mysterious Americans. A hidden fortune, secret pasts, and an oddly familiar troop of servants turns an evening of cocktails into loopy chaos. Private Cocktails parodies 1940s pulp fiction and classic drawing room farce with plenty of Ruoff’s off-beat and clever wit.

WHO’S WHO IN THE CAST & CREW

John Ruoff (Playwright) a Capitol Hill native (or Hiller), is thrilled to have his third production at Eclectic  Theater (Flame in the Mirror, Winter Harvest) and first working with director Jeff Woodbridge. John is currently writing for the Midnight Mystery Theater comedy radio show and super silly audio soap opera One Payne at a Time podcast. Future productions are Pirates and Saints in collaboration with Margaret Landry at Eclectic Theater in September and What a Woman! at Curtain Call Theatre NW in Mukilteo in the fall.

On the other side of the curtain, John is approaching his 500th performance as an actor, which includes Murder Mystery Co. and his passion for silent clowning in Troupe Comique. John sends him warm thanks to Rick and Mary Springer and love to Kathryn and Miss Margo.

Charles Crowley (Lord Roger Dropbottom) a Singer/Actor, has performed for many years in musical theater, cabaret and opera productions. Favorite roles have included Reverend Crisparkle in Drood, Ruben in Joseph, Captain Corcoran in HMS Pinafore, Kodaly in She Loves Me, and Cinderella’s Prince/The Wolf in Into the Woods. Cabaret and revue performances have included Dirty Little Showtunes! at Re-Bar, No, No, Noel! and Mental…For Now at the late, great Cabaret de Paris, as well as the 2013, 2015 and 2016 installments of March Is Cabaret Month at Egan’s.

Nick Mathews (Johnny Starlight) is a longtime veteran of Seattle theatre with past credits at Eclectic Theater, Ghostlight Theatricals, Snoqualmie Falls Forest Theater, Stone Soup Theater and A Theater Near You.  He’s excited to be able to work with this amazing group of artists and he’d like to send a little love out to his family and to his lovely ladyfriend.

Jared Holloway-Thomas (Thaxton) is a classically trained actor; they are thrilled to be appearing in Private Cocktails, and back at Eclectic Theater. Most recently Jared appeared as Borracio in GreenStage’s Much Ado About Nothing. Jared would like to thank friends and family for their support.

Jane Martin (Luna Belle St. Charleston) returns to the theatre after a 1-year absence and is excited to be working with a new play and great cast. Some of her favorite previous roles include her stint with BCT and 5 Neil Simon plays, Twilight Zone episodes with the Schmee, and the Ghost of Christmas Past.

Thank you to Stacy for 10+ years of understanding the theatre bug, and to Jeff and John for this opportunity. Enjoy the show!

Rebecca Herivel (Lady Daphne Dropbottom) Rebecca is thrilled to be making her Eclectic Theater debut! Rebecca is a Seattle native and completed her theater studies at the University of Washington where she appeared in numerous musical and theatrical productions. She has recently appeared in a number of films, including The Nature of Being, which was the recipient of the Northwest Film Forum Emerging Voices award. She can be seen regularly around Seattle performing with the Murder Mystery Company, and in various appearances as a singer and instrumentalist.

Special Thanks

Twelfth Night Productions for the costume and prop loan. Rick and Mary Springer. SAG-AFTRA Seattle and Rik Deskin*

ShootingStar_11x17_R2Shooting Star

by Steven Dietz

May 5-14, Thu-Sat at 7:30pm

“We humans love stories. And every once in a while, if you’re lucky, you see a story that stands out from all the others. Steven Dietz’s SHOOTING STAR is one of those stories. There are plenty of laughs in Dietz’s humorous tale, but at every important moment, every emotional high, every startling revelation, the theatre grows utterly silent. Stories told this well don’t come around very often.” —Austin Chronicle. “Hilarious and very serious…Steven Dietz’s work is filled with undercurrents. You will find yourself laughing out loud. And then, two minutes later, realizing there’s something serious under the guffaws. SHOOTING STAR is a work both funny and sad; a quick and sharp play about our lives, one that gives us all the fun and all the tears of our times. This is the play Neil Simon, at his best, would have written if he had been young in the 1970s.” —WRNI (NPR) radio, Providence. “Steven Dietz sends a tender valentine to middle-age in SHOOTING STAR, a smart and sweet comedy from one of the American theater’s most-produced playwrights. Dietz’s gift as a writer is an acute attention to our modern language. He elevates ordinary conversation to a kind of music. Dietz makes reality poetic.” —Austin-American Statesman. “SHOOTING STAR is that rare romantic comedy that is funny, but also charming, endearing, and not removed from reality…the entertainment is in the telling, in the playful banter, and there’s lots of it. SHOOTING STAR starts bright and doesn’t fade. It is bittersweet, and ultimately redemptive.” —Providence (RI) Journal.

Our Spring main stage show is a terrific play we’ve been dying to produce!  Psycho Beach Party, a comedic nod to the teenage beach movies of the 1960’s by queer playwright Charles Busch, will be directed by Fantastic.Z’s Kyle Baiz (Co-Artistic Director).  It’s hard enough being a teenage girl on Malibu Beach who just wants to be a surfer like one of the guys.  It’s even harder when you have a split personality.  Surf’s up for Chicklet and her friends May 26th – June 11th.

Thu-Sat at 8pm.

Advance Tickets are available at: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2405369
